Iron County Forestry and Parks



Iron County is located in far northern Wisconsin bordering Lake Superior, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Ashland, Vilas and Price Counties.  The third largest County Forest in the State of Wisconsin, Iron County offers plenty of recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing, to ATVing and snowmobiling, to camping, hiking and cross country skiing.  The Iron County Forestry Department is responsible for managing 174,317 acres of County Forest.

Current Events

  • Beginning May 1, Firewood permits will cost $20 and be valid for 1 year from the date of purchase.


  • ATV trails are now CLOSED.  ATV trails will open as spring breakup conditions allow.  Our goal is to be 100% open approximately mid-May.

  • All County Parks and Saxon Harbor are closed for the season.

  • ​Saxon Harbor boat slips are available for the 2015 season

  • 2014 Fall Timber Sale Results now available
