Camping on the
Iron County Forest
The Iron County Forestry and Parks Department operates 4 campgrounds and has 5 rustic campsites scattered throughout the County.
* Saxon Harbor is located on Cty Hwy A in Saxon, WI on Lake Superior.
* Schomberg Park is located at 9701N Hwy 51, Hurley, WI - half way between Hurley and Mercer.
* Lake of the Falls is located on Cty Hwy FF, 4 miles west off of Hwy 51 in Mercer, WI.
* Weber Lake is located on Cty Hwy E, 2.75 miles west of Hwy 77 in Iron Belt, WI.
Foster Falls, on Sullivan Fire Lane in Saxon, WI has one rustic campsite just a very short hike from Potato River's Foster Falls. Privy is available. No water or electricity. First come, first serve. No fee.
Potato River Falls is located on Potato River Falls Road in Gurney, WI. From US Hwy 2 take Hwy 169 south for 2.75 miles to Potato River Falls Road (west).
There are 5 campsites with firerings and picnic tables. Pavilion and pit toilet. No water or electricity. First come, first serve. No fee.
Hiking trails and stairs take you down to view the Falls. A viewing platform gives you a beautiful view of the Falls from early spring through late fall.
Shay's Dam Falls is located on Shay's Dam Road in the Town of Mercer. Directions from Hwy 51, Oma: East on Cty Hwy G for 8.8 miles, turn right on Cty Hwy H for 1 mile, left onto Fisher Lake Road for 2 miles then left on Shay's Dam Road.
Shay's Dam Falls has 2 campsites and a boat ramp on the Turtle River which leads into Fisher Lake. No water or electricity. First come, first serve. No fee.
Wren Falls on Tylers Fork is a hiking destination on the North Country Trail which can also be reached by vehicle. Wren Falls Road is about 3 miles east on Vogue's Road off of Hwy 169 in the Town of Anderson.
One campsite with privy is available on a first come, first serve basis. No electrical or water. No fee.
The Spider Lake campsite is accessible only by water. Use the boat landing on Pitt Road off of Fisher Lake Road in the Town of Mercer to get to the secluded campsite approximately .25 miles south of the boat landing. One campsite, privy, no electrical or water. First come, first serve. No fee.
Camping is allowed anywhere on the Iron County Forest for a maximum of 2 weeks including the rustic sites. No littering. Campfires must be contained and remember to check for fire restrictions when conditions are dry. No cutting of downed trees without a firewood permit. Cutting standing trees is prohibited whether alive or dead. Please leave your campsite just as you found it.
Remember: ATVs are allowed only on marked trails and routes.
