Bough Permits
are available at the Iron County Forestry Office.  Bough permits allow you to cut BALSAM FIR BOUGHS on Iron County Forest land only.  Each bough permit allows the permit holder, spouse and any children under 18 to partake in bough cutting.  Permits cost $100 for Iron County residents and $150 for out-of-county residents.  Proof of residency is required.  Permits expire on December 31 of the year issued.  For more information call the Iron County Forestry Department at (715)561-2697 or email tara@ironcountyforest.org.

Firewood permits
are available at the Iron County Forestry Office.  Firewood permits allow you to cut no more than 10 cords per year of firewood.  Only wood that is lying on the ground is allowed to be cut.  NO STANDING TREES WHETHER DEAD OR ALIVE.  Firewood Permits are $5 and expire on December 31 of the year issued.  For more information call the Iron County Forestry Department at (715)561-2697 or email tara@ironcountyforest.org.

Christmas tree permits
are available at the Iron County Forestry Office and the Mercer DNR.  Christmas tree permits allow you to cut one standing evergreen on Iron County Forest lands, to be used as a Christmas tree.  Permits are $1 and you can purchase up to 3 permits.  For more information call the Iron County Forestry Department at (715)561-2697 or email tara@ironcountyforest.org.
The Iron County Forestry Department manages the third largest County Forest in the State of Wisconsin with 174,317 acres.  Through cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, two timber sales are conducted each year.  The Spring sale generally takes place in early June and the Fall sale takes place in early November.  Between 16 and 21 tracts totaling nearly 2,000 acres are sold at each sale.
