the Iron County Forest
The entire Iron County Forest's 174,317 acres is open to hunting, fishing & trapping.  The vast forest is great for hunting numerous species from deer & bear to turkeys & grouse.

In 2009 the Ruffed Grouse Society provided the Iron County Forest with a $4,000 grant for developing a ruffed grouse and woodcock management area.  A map of the areas is available here.

Deer stands are allowed on the Iron County Forest.  Click HERE to download the Deer Stand Rules.
Hiking on the Iron County Forest guarentees an exilerating experience everytime!  From awesome overlooks to wonderful waterfalls you can make your hike however long or short you want.

Detailed waterfall information is available on the Iron County Economic Development website.
The Iron County Forest boasts two nordic ski trail systems - MECCA Ski Trails in Mercer and the Uller Ski Trail in Iron Belt.  Both systems allow biking & hiking during non-snow months.

The Uller offers a deepwoods back country classical skiing experience through the Penokee Mountains - some of the remotest trails in Wisconsin.  Trail heads are located in downtown Pence and across from the Weber Lake parking lot.  The trails are maintained by the Penokee Rangers.

The MECCA Trails are maintained and groomed by the MECCA Ski Club.  The trails are primarily located on Iron County Forest and WDNR property.  Go to the MECCA website for lastest information.
