2010.04.27 -- TRAILS OPENING

All Iron County Trails
will open for ATV use
Monday, May 3rd, 2010.

Iron County will be participating
in the State's UTV Pilot Program.
More information is posted below.

2010.03.11 -- TRAILS ARE CLOSED

All Iron County Trails are now closed.

Gates along the trails will be closed.

Trails will remain closed until they are opened for ATV-use on a trail-by-trail basis as conditions allow... Trails need to dry out and be inspected for washouts and grade-integrity.

Thank you for your cooperation during this seasonal transition time.

UTV PILOT PROGRAM:

BACKGROUND:

Iron County is participating
in the State's UTV Pilot Program.

Use of UTVS on the Iron County Trails is limited
to Spring, Summer, and Fall.

The Program runs until July 2012.
It will determine the suitability of the vehicles
for use on the trails in the State.

The future use of UTVs will be determined
by how you drive them
and the subsequent condition of the trails.
If you damage the trails,
the UTVs will be removed.

UTV DEFINITION:

In Iron County, UTVS are limited to:


• Registered with the DNR as an ATV
• width up to 62 inches
• length up to 94 inches in Wheelbase
• Height up to 80 inches
• Weight up to 1300 pounds
• Engine size up to 800cc
• at least Four low-pressure tires
• side by side seating for one driver and one passenger
• Designed for off-highway use
• Equipped with a manufacturer-installed, stock cargo box.
• Steering wheel
• brakes, brake lights, head- and tail-lights, spark arrester, and noise limits as defined in 33.33(6), (6(m))
• Definition excludes go-carts, golf carts, mini-pickups, tracked vehicles, and low speed vehicles
